Canton China
July 1st 1880.
My own dear Father,
We have been
thinking about you all day
on this your seventy sixth
birthday, and wishing
so much that it were
possible for us to be with
you a little while.
You would see us coming
in to visit you very often
if it were possible for us
to follow our thoughts.
I hope that you have
had a happy day and
that you may have
many more happy returns
of your birthday happy
for your own sake and

many for the sake of others.
Mrs Kerr always tells us that
when she saw you a year
ago you did not seem at
all old to her and in a
letter we just received from
Jennie Blocher she says that
you and Mother never
seem to grow old to her.
I hope that after another
term of service on the Mission
field I shall come home
and find you still in
the dear old home.
You and Mother must
try and take good care
of yourselves. It always
gives us so much pleasure
to think how much you
are interested in our work
and plans. We cannot
begin to tell you how glad
we are this summer to see

the school building growing
day by day under the hands
of the workmen. Mr Corbett
wrote that he was sure
it will prove a great blessing
to the women and girls
about here and I know
it will. He wrote to Henry
that he remembers and
often prays for you all
in our old home. He is
a very good man he made
us think a little of you,
but I do not think he
could manage to live at
peace with all men as
well as you.
We are so very glad
to hear that this year
the Board is free from
debt I hope it is the
beginning of better things.
Surely the interest in
Missions at home has

developed wonderfully during
the past few years,
and it will doubtless go
on growing deeper and
deeper, for it seems as
though when any one
is once thoroughly enlisted
he is not likely to grow
"weary in well doing".
I have worked a
book mark which I
enclose for you The
two characters on it are
Shing Shü (pronounced she) I will
mark them here so you will
know which is the upper one [Note: includes two drawn Chinese characters]
Shing means Holy and
Shü Bible, "Holy Bible"
You must think that
a great deal of love goes
with it and every good
wish for my dear Father.
Hoping that this new year
of your life may be happier than
any preceding one Ever your loving daughter
Hattie.

Kerr
Jennie Blocher

/
我同意
Corbett
Henry,

Hattie。
