[Note: Additional note on page one]
I will try and do something for the "Times" if I can
next week
"Hitherto
hath the
Lord helped
us"
Sabbath 22nd
We are nearing
Yokohamma and have
been looking out at the
mountains feeling that the
first chapter of our [--sea--]
experience at sea is about
ended. The Captain says
we will not anchor before
10 oclock to night. It will
be very nice to be able to live
still and sleep. I expect to
go off to shore to morrow
morning or will go up to Tokio
if we say in port long enough
to do so. Every one is out
looking, and talking about
going ashore. No services
to day.
Monday morn - Anchored in
Y. Raining raining.
do not know whether I can
go over to the shore or not

Am ashamed to send this
poor scratch of a journal
home but it will perhaps
be better than nothing.
I I feel better on the
way to Hong Kong will do
better perhaps. I must tell
Em that those lovely things
she and Clara cooked the last
week I was at home have
been subjects of reflection
ever since. Many thanks to
them both. I meant to have
written letters to each of you
all but could not very well.
Please send this to Sarah after
you are through with it as I have
not scratcher her a line.
I hope you are all well and
everything prospering at home
These sail for San Francisco
to morrow and we steer southward
With ever and ever so much
love -
Martha
