Allegheny City
Feb 15th 1864
Dear Sister
Your letter was
received all right. You
need not have apologized
for the length at all, the
longer & oftener the better
If you don't get letters
from me as often as I
ought to write, just take
your own pen & give me
a going over for your own
amusement in regard
to the matter & you will
probably very soon see
the beneficial effects on
your "frater" although
I venture to suggest as
I did to Father that it
was your turn to write

inasmuch as I wrote
the last before vacation &
then visited you "to boot."
I should have an-
swered your last a little
sooner but I got into a-
nother job, Spray Murray
sent me a request for
a copy of my speech on
"the dignity of Labor". It
is considerable of a job
to copy a twenty minutes,
or half hour's speech. It's
one of the plagues of [?n?]
making a good speech. Whew !!
Pardon the egotism if you
please " I did'nt go to do it "
I have just finished the
job this afternoon & besides
all this you know that
my correspondence is
gradually growing more
extensive the older I get.

I don't have to study
very hard to get along
with Seminary Exercises
We don't have as much
to do as we had before
vacation. If I had my
exercises for Presbytery
I should feel nicely but
somehow I can't get
at them & can't do anything
if I do. I guess however
I shall try to pitch into
them to-morrow.
I am living almost
in prefect independence as
far as cooking is concerned.
I just cook away as nice
as you please once in a
while buy a lot of potatoes
some flour or something
of that kind & then eat
& grow fat. I hav'nt spent
as much since vacation

for victuals as I would
have had to pay in
one week if I boarded
out. Board is now
from $2.75 to $3.00 a
week.
I don't think of
anything more to
write. Give my love
to all the folks at home
my kind regards to
Hannah &c &c
Hannah need'nt have
troubled herself about my
going to her sisters as I didn't
have to wait in Wooster long
& went there with Martha
as it was.
I have been getting
my pictures taken. Got
in with the Senior class
& got 2 dozen for $3.00 whereas
the regular price is $4.00 per
dozen. Good Afternoon

Spray Murray
