<text> Nov 27th 1868 -
	Dear Ones all,
					I have just a minute
this morning before prayers but I feel
as if I must take my pen and tell
you how much I am thinking about
you all just now. It is now seven in
the morning so I think of you as
being all together spending Thanksgiving
evening at Mr Crane's. I hope you will
all have as happy an evening as I had
two years ago under the same roof. I do
not know as there is any evening that I
enjoy the recollection of more than that.
I suppose if I was with you now Cyrus
would not treat me to as much "hard cider"
as he did that evening. But I do not
think if I could join your circle for a
little while I would be sad for the want
of cider or anything else. I know you
will think of us today and of the darling
ones who will never come again to meet
with us here. But I know we ought not
to feel sad when we think of those who
are safely home. I hardly know how
many to think of as being gathered in
the dear old brick house. I would like
to think that you are all together
but I am afraid that you are too
much scattered. I have been wondering
if Ellen with her dear ones will not be
with you to-day but perhaps her visit is

already passed and she again in
her western home. So it is meetings
and partings the sunlight and the
shadows all along our way. As Sarah
says perhaps it would ^[make] Life too pleasant
if we could keep our dear friends near
us, and I am sure nothing can
wean us from Earth more than to
have those who are nearest and dearest
called away. I cannot write more for it
is after seven so I must content myself
with sending Ever so much love and
ever so many good wishes over the dark
blue sea "to loved ones far away." ---
Here is this sheet partly written over
and here it is almost night but I
will try to add a few lines if I am
not interrupted for I cannot bear
the idea of sending blank paper
to Ohio. Thanksgiving day is some
distance back now and it will
be a great deal farther away when
you are reading this . Dr Kerr
+ family took dinner with us
that day . I wanted to have Ms
Prestons come up too but it is
a great task for her to get away
with her five little ones. They
have only taken dinner with
us once since I have been here.

I believe if I can remember it I
will give you our bill of fare so
that you may see that we can have
a very good Thanksgiving dinner
on this side of the world and
not so very different from what
our friends are eating at home.
Beef Soup, Roast beef + Chicken (in lieu of Turkey)
potatoes rice tomatoes, mince + pumpkin
pie cake and canned pears, and tea.
You see we do not suffer here for
want of eating material.,
But I dont think the Thanksgiving
dinner would weigh much in
the scale compared with the
pleasures of the family gathering.
I am glad you that is the
part of you that belongs to the
Guilford Sabbath School had
such a pleasant picnic at the
lake. I think once in a while
here where we can ride in a
boat any day, about what a
treat it used to be to have a
sail on Lake Chippewa. And
yet a sail in one of these Chinese
boats is not quite the same thing.

Does my little class in SS all
attend regularly. I suppose they
have changed ever so much
since I came away, I have
thought about them every sabbath
since I left home. Has Rollo
Caughey ever succeeded in getting
admitted to West Point and os
Forrest McDowell still at home. Is
Chester such a dear nice little boy
as he used to be and how does Jamie
Soper get on and Jamie Turner
and little Johnnie Hughes I wonder
if he likes to come to SS now. And
Frankie + Charlie I hope they
are doing well. My love to them
all and to all the scholars.
I know you must miss Dr Allen
so much but he will be doing
good wherever he is. You have
not told me how many scholars
there were last summer I wonder if you
will be able to keep it up this winter.
My love to all the good people
in Seville + Jackson who feel
an interest in us, As ever
	Your own loving
		Hattie ---
