<text> Hongkong
						Oct 11th '70.
My dear Frank
We are very sorry to hear
by our last letters from home that you are
so poorly but hope you are better again
before this time. Does Dr Murray think
that the trouble is entirely in your throat
and has the medicine that he gave
you done you good. I hope you
will write to us soon and tell us
all about it. It seems such a long
time since you have written to us.
We had a nice trip to "the Peak" Monday
The city of Hongkong is built at the
foot & on the side of quite a mountain
called Victoria Peak. It is quite a
climb to the top but from the top
there is a delightful view and such
a cool bracing air. How much we
wished there was some such place
near Canton.
It is now the morning of the 12th such
a lovely bright morning in a few hours

the China will start for USA and then
tomorrow we must go back to Canton.
If we had been here 10 years & were convinced
that it was our duty to go home in the
China to-day I think it would be easy to feel
resigned. I have enjoyed this visit extremely
it has been such a rest, the first time
since I came to China that I have
really thrown aside Chinese & partially
forgotten that I was in China.
I dont suppose I accomplish any
more perhaps not as much by feeling
"in a stew" as we used to say because
I cannot do more, but here where it
seem as if there is so much that might
be done and so few to do it it is
very hard to feel otherwise.
I fear that when I return to
Canton I may find that the
excitement has affected my
school somewhat, but perhaps not.
I meant to write a letter for Father
but there is no time now. My
warmest love for all the dear ones.
Tell Em to take good care of her eyes,
& you must be careful of your throat.
[Note: Written vertically on the left margin]
Do write to us. Your own loving sister
Hattie.

</text>
