Letter from Hattie and Henry to Mother, April 7, 1873

Subject

Fashion; Dresses; Textiles

Description

It seems that Harriet is sending fabric back home. She hopes that 6 1/2 yards will be enough for the pattern, especially since she suspects her mother will not over indulge in over skirts and ruffles.

For our dear Mother
with the love of
Henry + Hattie
Canton China
April 7th 1873.

I hope it will not prove
too scant a patterN for a
dress there are only 6 1/2 yds
but it is very wide. I
suppose you have not grown
any taller since we left
America + I presume you
do not indulge in over skirts
and ruffles Mrs Happer
has [--had--] a dress like this +
finds it very serviceable.
We got it for $12. 00 ---
