Letter from Hattie to Em, November 9, 1874

In this letter to her sister Emily, Harriet congratulates her on graduating from Wooster University and says she found her graduating Essay to be very good. She hopes her other sisters will go to Wooster. She asks for them to send letters from Columbus and Wooster.

My dear Em-
I will take this
little sheet and write
a little letter in a
little time for it is
nearly bed time .
WE were delighted
when this mail came
to find that it had
brought a copy of
your graduating Essay
and still more
delighted when we
had read it and
found out how good
it was. Once more

let me send you
my warmest
congratulations for all
your successes at
Wooster University. It
gives me very [u]much
pleasure[/u] to reflect
upon it and think
that it is "our Em".
And I am delighted
too that we shall
not be obliged to
think of you this year
as drumming away in
a Grammar School
something of which I
have a wholesome
dread. I am afraid

you would have
found it very hard.
And I wished so
much that Clara
and Mary should
have this year at
Wooster that you
may know I am
pleased at the way
it has all turned
out. And now as
you are going to be
at home this year
I am going to make
a special plea for
letters and that is
that when you
make up the China

mail you will gather
up and put in the
letters that come home
from Columbus and
Wooster. You know
they will do us just
as well as if they were
written on purpose for
us and we shall be
[u]so glad[/u] to get them they
would have little details
that otherwise we would
miss. We have tried to
set you a good
Example in forwarding
Henry's letters that he
has written to us while away
