Canton, Jan 15th/ 68
For all the Dear Ones at Home,
I will write
a few lines to you all this morning for
I am thinking of all while I am
writing. It is early in the morning and
I am sitting in Mr Folsom's parlor,
as I have not yet gone up to Henry's
home. Henry wrote to you last night
and I suppose he told you how sick
he has been but he is getting better
now. Monday they heard down here
that he was worse again + so Mr Fulsom
went over & brought him home with him.
He was not any worse but lonely & feeling
so much anxiety about the fate of our
steamer but now I hope that he will soon
get well + strong again. Before he was
taken sick this time Mrs Folsom says he
had entirely recovered from the spell of
fever that he had last summer, and was
looking better that he had at any time
since he had been in China. You
will want to know just exactly how he
is now. He is able to walk around quite
well but he looks rather poor & feeble

and you know we have never seen
Henry anything but strong & healthy
for so many years. He is stronger by
considerable than either Sarah or Edward
were when I left home. It seems so
like being with them again in their sickness.
I hope long long before this they are
quite well and Em too. I do not
hardly know yet what they think has
been the matter. He was confined to
bed for nearly a month & suffered a
great deal of pain in his back whether
from neuralgia or something else I do
not know. Mrs Folsom says she thinks
Dr Wong hardly knows what to call it.
I hope Dr Kerr can cure him entirely
and that he many once more enjoy
good health as he used to at home.
I have only time to write hastily
about our meeting. When I first saw
him I could not help shedding tears
of joy and when I met him I could
only say Dear Henry. - But I
must leave everything and only say
that I send so much love to all at
home to Mr Crane's folks all & all
the dear friends in Guilford.

I have not time to look over my
journal you will correct it if there
are any bad mistakes as I have no
doubt there are I have written so
hurriedly. My cold is much better
& otherwise I am perfectly well.
I hope we shall get letters from
home soon. And that the loving
care of our Heavenly Father may be
over you all in the earnest prayer of
Your own loving
Hattie.

Folsom

Henry
Folsom
Wong

Hattie
