Canton China
Sept 29th 1875.
My dear Mother -
I have just been writing
a letter to Mrs Ellinwood which
I am afraid is as dry as a
basket of chips and now shall
I write a few lines to you of the
same sort. Henry and Mr Henry
have gone away on a Mission trip of
a week - left this morning. The
chief item of interest to us is that
the SS China has left Yokohama
and we may expect our
home letters a week from to-day.
The schools are going on
nicely the wheels seem to be
oiled this term, there has as
yet hardly been the slightest
fiction I hope such a
state of things is not too
good to last. It hardly
seems possible that it is
two months to-day since
the scholars came back.
WE are glad to hear that
Edward's "Corn Prince" is
finished. I do hope
it will prove a success.
I suppose you are
beginning to think about
cold weather but we
do not seem yet to
have much prospect of
a change ,but October
is so near it seems
as though it must
grow cooler soon .
I think the past
summer has been
rather a trying one
and I am sure we
shall all be glad
when we see and feel
the last of it.
Much love for all

Edward
