Harriet writes to her sister Mary to update her on the going-ons of her fellow missionaries. Mrs. Happer is going home and is stopping by Wooster, so if the family will go to her, they can meet her. Mr. Cunningham, who rarely gets ill, is sick and Harriet hopes that he gets better and does not leave Lillie alone. Harriet wonders if Dr. Happer plans to go home with his daughters. Dr. Thomson seems to have many patients, and Harriet hopes his practice will continue to grow. She looks forward to going home at the end of her second term.

My dear Mary,
I do not feel as though
I have anything of much
interest to write about tonight.
Mary & Verdie Happer have
just returned from a visit with
the Talmage girls in Amoy.
Tell Mattie that Mrs [?Rapage's?]
health is very poor and she
expects to go to Japan next
summer. They all think
she had better go home.
Miss Ricketts colleague
Miss Mellis is going to be married
soon to Mr Smith one of their
mission who lost his wife nearly
two years since. Mrs Happer
is going home by the steamer
which is to leave Hong Kong
on the [?5th?] of April. She will
stop in Wooster to see [?John?].
I hope it will be possible for
some of you to go down and
see her there. Miss Butler says she just written
to some of her friends that if they miss of seeing
Mrs Happer while she is at home they will
miss seeing the best woman that was ever
made. If she will telegraph to you from
some point perhaps if you could not drive
down to Wooster some one might go down
and meet her at Massillon and have a
little visit. I do not think she will feel
that she could stop to go to Seville as she
is so anxious to got [u] home [/u] and Dr Happer
wants her to go on to the General Assembly
in May so she will not have much time.
I hope she will visit you some time. You
will find that she is one that would not give
the least trouble and you would not need
to make the least fuss for. Mr Cunningham
Lillie's husband has not been well lately He
has been in China twenty one years and
has never been ill before. He does not seem
very ill is going down to Hong Kong tomorrow
but it is so unusal for anything to be the matter
with him. I do hope Lillie will never be left alone
he takes such tender care of her I dont know
what she would do without him. We are
wondering if it is Dr Happer's plan to go home
after two years with his daughters and
perhaps stay at home. If he could get
Dr Lowrie's place I am sure he would
be delighted. I presume Henry will
eventually have his Training School and if so
I am sure it would be better managed than now.
If Mr & Mrs Henry, Dr & Mrs
Kerr & Hattie, Dr & Mrs Happer, Mary
& Verdie all go home within the next
two years we shall feel quite lost.
Mrs Kerr has set out that Hattie
shall not go to the picnic that week
on account of her lessons. She
is rather lard with her
oftentimes it seems just as
she happens to feel
Mr White and Dr Thomson
have not yet been able
to get homes in [?Lin Cham?] but
their wives are going up by the
1st of April to try to bring in
boats for a time.
Dr Thomson has a good
many patients and it seems
hopeful. I wish so much
they could get treated up
there. Then they say they
are going to have me come
up and start a Boarding
School. I shall begin to
think about going home again
soon I am now in my [u] sixth [/u]
year of the second term.
