Hattie wishes that the whole family could have been there on the 17th when her parents had their anniversary. She mentions her Uncle Augustus and how he might never leave Ohio. She talks about how beautiful New England is and the old home in New Hampshire. She and Lucy Leaman had a bible study recently and she marked the 103rd Psalm with the date June 17th, 1883. Harriet hopes that her parents can see the two little grandchildren, Henry's kids. All of the missionaries are traveling about including Kerr, Masters, Happer, Simmons, Fulton.

My dear Father
Your letter written
June 18th came by the last
mail. It seemed so very nice
to get a letter that you had
directed on the outside It
has been a long time since
I have had one. I am glad
you had such a pleasant time
on the 17th. and wish so
much that it had been possible
for all the children to have
been with you on that day.
Nothing seems so nice to me
as a [u]quiet time[/u]. I do not think
very many are needed for
company but I wish the
whole of the family could
have been together. and that
all our relatives were not so far
away. I am afraid Uncle
Augustus will never get out to
Ohio. It always seems as thought
it would have been so nice if
he had gone out to Ohio when
he was young. New England
seems such a hard place
for farming. But I do not
think I have ever in any land
seen a more beautiful location
than your old home among
the New Hampshire hills.
I hope sometime I may see
it in the summer time Both
times I have visited it in the
winter season. You all wrote
so fully of the 17th that I
[u]almost[/u] feel as though I had
indeed spent the day with
you and as though I should
remember it all as well as
those who were there. I have
a [u]very nice[/u] Bible which Lucy
Leaman gave me and in
it I have marked the
103d Psalm with the date
June 17th 1883 It does seem
too bad that Sarah could not
get home when she was so near.
I wish you could see your
two little grand children. I am
sure it would give you great
pleasure. They are very pretty
and seem very nice little
boys. Edward wrote recently
that he hoped they would prove
an honor to the Noyes family.
and I have no doubt they
will. Little Willie seems to be
a christian already. Perhaps
Henry will write to you about some
time since one day Willie
came to him and told him
that he was good now that he
had prayed he said he did
not mean that he had prayed
in the morning when he always
does but that he had prayed
more It seems they had been
reading to him and told
him that if he wanted to be
good he must pray to God to
make him so and at once
he knelt down and prayed
and sobbed. He seems to have
a very tender little heart and I
never in my life saw a child so
wholly devoted to a parent as he
is to Henry. They are all in
HongKong now for a month. No
doubt Henry will write to you about
the very nice house that they have
all furnished beautifully. The
rent for a month is $ 100.00 but
the Baptist Mission and our
Mission have taken it together.
so it is only $ 50.00 for each. Dr +
Mrs Kerr are down there Mr + Mrs
Fulton Verdie Happer. Mr Pearce +
family Mr Masters + family + Mr +
Mrs Simmons. It seems as though every
one is going away this summer. Only
Mr + Mrs Simmons are in the house with
Henry and his family We have
been talking about a trip to Lin chau
for the past two months but last night
after long consideration finally gave it
up. We had intended to start to-day.
The real reason that we gave it up
is that we feel so [u]very[/u] anxious about
dear Dr Kerr that we could not
make up our minds to go away from
Canton. Do pray for him that his
valuable life may be spared and

that his health may be restored I know that he
himself feels
that his work
is finished but
other Doctors do
not seem so
hopeless. He
seems to be
losing all
the time
has changed
very much
within the
past month.
It seems as
though we [u]could
not[/u] spare him
Perhaps when the
hot weather is over
he will get strong
I am glad you set out a
tree for me hope it will live -
