Harriet writes this letter to thank Clara for the music that she sent her and Mary for the books that she sent for Christmas. Sophie has been sick, and she is really thin. Harriet used to weigh 115 pounds until she went back home in 1876 and now weighs 136.5 since then. She finishes the letter because the man that carries the letters was waiting for her.

My dear Clara & Mary,
I wanted to write
to you all today but as
the time is all gone
will only send you
a line together. Some
of my letters I dated
July 8th but it is really
the 7th today almost
the middle of summer.
I think of you as well
together now how I
would like to add
one more to the
number. I hope
Mary is feeling
stronger, it seems a

long time since
our last letters came.
The music Clara
sent came by last
mail it will do
very nicely I am
sure a thousand
thanks. I do not think
I ever thanked you
Mary for the pretty
little books you send
us all at Christmas
time. I always write
so hurriedly that I
leave out many
things I wish to
write Sophie &
Mr Wisner have
been staying with

us the past week
have gone home
today. She has been
quite sick but is better
has grown so thin.
She used to weigh
as much as I do.
I am glad to hear
you weigh 114. Pretty
well for Mary I never
weighed more than
115 till I went home
in '76 now I weigh
136 1/2 "Tell it not in [?Gath?]"
Do you remember when
I wrote that Martha
weighed 138 but not
to mention it. I have
been fixing over that
lawn dress of Sarah's

that I confiscated
it was too [u] small [/u] around
the waist. I do not
think however I am
much if any larger
than when I left
home the last time.
Now I must close or
the old man who
carries the letters will
get out of patience.
