Monday eve
My dear Hattie
Was so glad to get
your letter and know that
you were feeling better Do
hope the cold weather will
not make you worse We are
feeling the change here very
much. The Dr keeps his cold
and we can scarcely expect
him to recover from it while
there is such a north wind
About that cloth I asked Ayan
about it and she did not
think it was for her grand
mother so after a little inquiry
I found its destination and
it is in the hands of its owner
Will send with this a note received
enclosing a dollar {silver} so
you can see who it is from.
The note was directed to Dr
Kerr Will give the money to

Miss Lewis Shall I not? I suppose
Dr Thomson has gone to the
country to day. He can [?deck?] a
good amount of clothing without
being too warm. Are the repairs
going on? If so no doubt you
are general Superintendent,
Do not know when the Dr
will get away. He seems to
be pinned pretty closely but
every body is when able to do their
regular work. Mr Wells was
at church last eve. It seemed
almost like receiving him
back from the dead. He looks
thin and they say he feels every
change. Is on a meat diet.
Dr Wales is in Hongkong and
Dr Kerr has his patients. Has
seen Mrs Alabaster and a lady
on Honam. Kwan Loi has
returned, has a very bad cold
Am so sorry as it is Communion
week and he will have extra
services. Do not know of any one

from the hospital who expects
to join the Church though there
may be some for baptism. Dr
& Mrs Lwan expect to have their
baby baptized by Kwan Loi next
Sabbath. They feel as they are
church members there that
they ought to do this. I think
Kwan Loi will be glad to do
it. Olivia did not get any
shoes for Willie from San
Francisco whether any were
sent from Phil. do not know
Have spent most of the
day at the hospital. I find
in making up the report
of the Hospital school that
the smallest number of
pupils that have ever recited
at one time during the year
was 22 and the largest 32
Last year the smallest num
ber was 15 and the largest
I think 22. The Rheumatism
girl whom you took into the

Boarding School is back again
and seems about to become
a fixture. Can not but be
sorry for her but the Hospital
can not take her on. She
might have been all right,
if she would have done her
duty. There was a large company of
tourists here the other day all
but two from Chicago Ill. and
we hear of another company
who propose to visit us to-
morrow. This is one of cooks
parties. The other was the one
Prof. Butler was in in the north
Our Conference Dr Thomson
will tell you about. The Sha-
min party got lost and wan-
dered for quite a while over
the rice fields. Rupert attempted
to act as guide and fell into
the Canal twice. Willie helped
him out of his dilemma upon
arrival by furnishing him a
partial outfit, Refreshment

[Continued vertically on the first page]
Tea and 3 kinds of cake. Miss Butlers letter was
read for our enter
tainment while
going over in the
boat. The one she
sent to Mrs Simmons
It was so com
ical The Dr does
look just like an
old German pro
fessor as he sits
with his cap on
and shawl around
his shoulders
To morrow think
we will indulge
in a fire. Good
night. With love
to Mrs Butler
Yours aff sister Mattie

Kwan Loi
