Waterford NY
April 16th 1889
Dear Hattie.
We [?were?] glad to hear
by the last mail from China of
your safe arrival in HongKong.
The last letter from you [--that we--]
in this country was from [?Owaba?]
just after that freight train tried
to smash up your car. From your
later letters, you seem to
have rather a rough Ocean voyage;
and withal had a little taste of
sea-sickness. You will hereafter
be better able to sympathize with
people who undergo that affliction.
I did not have the least touch
of it on my way home.
Spring is coming on here
now and we hardly need a fire
except in the morning and evening.
We have a little frost now and
there. A little more than a week
ago we had a short trip to the

Green mountains. Bella has a
cousin there who is a congregational
minister. The name of the place
is Arlington. We all went
leaving [?Troy?] Friday afternoon.
We found quite a difference in
the temperature as we got up
into the mountains. Around
Waterford the snow had all
disappeared but we found the
mountains covered with snow.
and the windows would be
covered with frost in the morning.
If [--would--] looked quite natural
to see the sugar camps with
pails all hung to the trees.
It was right in the midst of
the season and we got some
of the benefit of it. Vermont
is rather noted I believe as a
place for making maple sugar.
I saw in the paper a notice
of one town [?Dauly?] where I think
the article stated that the people

made $75,000 worth of syrup &
sugar a year.
I have been attending a
meeting of the Troy Presbytery at
[?Ahoes?] last evening and this forenoon
to see how they get along here
at home. I concluded by noon
to day that things were going
along all right and came home.
Of course the meeting was for
transacting business. They con-
tinue this afternoon and this
evening.
There is to be a popular
meeting at Albany to morrow
evening in connection with the
Woman's Annual meeting or Northern
New York at which Dr Atterbury
is expected to speak. We are
expecting to go down to hear
him
We are all in usual health
I think now that my voice is
really getting stronger. It has not
seemed to be decidedly improved
till about a month ago, but I presume

now it will keep on getting stronger.
Dr Riggs is still not able to preach
so I still alternate with Dr Dickson
in taking the morning Sabbath service
at the Waterford Church.
Please tell Mr Henry that I
have received his statement officially
that I am alternate Commissions
to the Gen Assembly - that I was glad
to get his letter and will answer
soon. Mr SFulton was appointed
Commissioner and as I fully
expect he will be home I do
not contemplate being a member
of the Assembly.
I presume you were
taken rather by surprise when
you learned what Mr Wisner
and Sophie had been about
I hope his health will continue to
improve.
With love from us all
-Henry.

我们 [?were?]
有相当艰难的远洋航行;

Dauly
