My dear Mary--
I have written to
all the rest and now
I must send you a
few lines even if I am
late to dinner down at
Mrs Parkes. It wont do
to be late either very well
for they have put off
their dinner two hours to
accomodate me -
as they usually dine at
two and to-day they will
have it at four. I went
down there one day to
dine at Mrs Masters and
the tide was so strong
against I was an hour
behind time by their time
which was half an
hour faster than mine -
Once just after I came
when we were living up at
the other end a mile + a
half farther up the river
Mrs Anderson a lady who
was here then and
proverbially tardy and I
started together to go down
to a meeting at the lower
end and reached there
just as they were singing
the last hymn
Mattie will be glad to get
back next week but if she
finds the watchman keeps
her awake as bad as ever
and I am afraid he
will I dont know what
she will do. I almost
dread to have her come
back for I am afraid
it will be just the same
thing over again. I find
come to count my letters over
again that this makes
thirty five for this mail.
My pile of unanswered
letters begins to look small
compared with what
it was - I do wonder
how Sarah will get along
in Columbus without Cousins
Gilbert + Mary Aunt Fay
and the children - I
shared very fully in your
"blue" when the news
reached here - I had
such nice visits at Columbus
while I was at home-
I am glad they were
there then I enjoyed
being with them so
much - I dont [?dare to
try to?] write another word so good bye
