Hattie tells her father that they have been to the village North of the city. Mr. Henry had a service and admitted one man and one woman. Some of the women there are in the Women's Training School, but she hopes to one day have a school there as well. Mr. Jeremiassen is a Dane who is working in Hainan. He studied medicine with Dr. Kerr and how has his own patients and has begun to perform operations. She says that he has been received well and would like to work in connection with the mission.

My dear Father
We have been out
to-day to the village North
of the city where we have
schools. Mr Henry went
out yesterday and staid
over night and this
morning Miss Butler +
I went out. Mr Henry
had a Communion Service
and two, one woman + one
man were admitted.
There has not been any
church formed there
yet but there are now
nine church members so
we hope there will soon
be enough to form a church.
Tell Martha that ALeung
the woman who was studying
medicine, is teaching the
girls school there now and
is able to use her knowledge
of medicine more or less.
It is a small village
but the one of which I have
written from which so many
women have come in to
the city to hear "the doctrine"
is not far away and that
is quite a large place I
hope we can have a school
there soon. Some of the
women from that village
are new in the Womens Training
School. Mr Henry is going
to take a long trip this fall
is going to the island of
Hainam on the S East Coast
of China and proposes
to [u]walk[/u] all the way
around it six hundred miles.
Mr Jeremiassen of whom
M- can tell you is working
there alone. He is a Dane a
very energetic practical man
was formerly in the Customs
service here but left it to become
a missionary and is supporting
himself. He came and
studied medicine with Dr
Kerr for seven months and
got on wonderfully now doctors
at the rate of one hundred
patients and performs operations
I suppose he does not attempt
very serious ones. Dr Kerr
I think would like to have
time come back and
study longer with him and
I hope he will sometime
He was very much pleased
with him as a student. In
the last Annual Report which
Henry wrote he advised the
Board. to send out a
missionary to be associated
with Mr Jeremiassen-
and I hope they will. There
is a large field to be
posessed and as yet only
Mr Jeremiassen is there He
has been received very
favorably and he would
like to work in connection
with our Mission. The
arrangements for building
the Chapel are not yet
completed but I hope they
will be soon -- It will
be so nice to have it.
I am looking forward
to vacation in the Boarding

School -- It has been a very nice year everything has
gone on so prosperously
and although I
have so many
schools the work
has not seemed
hard because
I have such
good helpers
in the native
teachers.
