Description
Harriet tells her father that they thought that the home mail would arrive today but it did not. Dr. Thomson arrived today to cover Dr. Kerr's place because he needs to rest. Last Saturday some drunk men from the custom-house randomly shot some Chinese. They killed a boy and wounded a man and a woman. The men are being tried and the resolution would probably be that they need to pay some money. Harriet thinks that the way in which some foreigners treat the Chinese is awful.

My dear Father,
It is almost time to
send the letters to the steamer
so I can only write a line I will
send a copy of the report I am
sending to Mrs Perkins. We
thought perhaps our home mail
would come today but it did not
so we must wait till Monday
morn We are having very hot
weather here now thermometer up
to 98° Last night at bedtime
it was 99° and not a breath
of air stirring. Dr Thomson reached
here today from Lien Chew. The
mission was obliged to send
for him to come down and
take Dr Kerr's place so that he
can rest. Last Sabbath there
was a sad affair here Some of the
Custom House men were drunk
and entirely unprovoked shot
at the Chinese killing a boy &
wounding a man & woman
The way in which some
foreigners treat the Chinese is
abominable. The men are
being tried now. I suppose
it will be settled by them
paying some money.
Now I must say goodbye
with much love for all

快到把信寄到轮船的时间了，
所以我只能写一行，
我会把我要寄给珀金斯夫人的报告的副本寄给我。
我们认为也许我们的家庭邮件今天会来，
但它没有，
所以我们必须等到星期一早上我们现在天气非常炎热，
温度计高达 98° 昨晚睡觉时它是 99°，
没有一丝空气搅拌。
Thomson 医生今天从连州来到这里。
使团不得不派他下来接替克尔医生的位置，
以便他可以休息。
上个安息日，

一些外国人对待中国人的方式令人憎恶。
