Harriet writes home to inform everyone she has made it to San Francisco. She is staying at the Occidental Hotel with the four Methodist ladies she met on the train. They all went out with Mr. and Mrs. Masters after dinner. She plans to go to the Chinese service tomorrow morning and expects to see either Dr. Loomis or Mr. Kerr.

San Francisco
Sat eve Feb 9th 89.
Dear ones at Home -
You see I have
safely reached this stage
of my journey and [u]we[/u]
are located at the
Occidental Hotel. If you
could look in upon us now
you would see a cozy
room with five single
ladies "under the gas-"
four of us are writing
letters to the friends far
away and the fifth is
setting some stitches in a
dress which she proposes
to wear tomorrow.
I have just been telling

my Methodist friends
that I know you will
be glad when you learn
how cordially they have
taken me into their
number. they seem
quite glad to have
me with them and
it is very pleasant
for me. We have a
room with a folding
bed and two small
rooms opening out of it.
so we shall be very
comfortably situated here
until next Wednesday.
We reached here this
morning at about 1/2 past
eleven ,and came
directly here . Just as
we were registering our
names Mr Masters came

in. He arranged for
us all to go out after
dinner to a park where
we would meet Mrs
Masters .I thought we
would return in time to
go to the Presbyterian Mission
Rooms and get my letters
but it was too late so that I
shall have to wait until
tomorrow for my letters .I
feel so impatient to get them.
I will go to the Chinese
service tomorrow morning
at eleven and will see
Dr Loomis or Mr Kerr
there doubtless .I wish so
much I had the letters
tonight it seems as
though I can hardly
wait . I hope Em
came home this morning

so that there are four of
you together this evening
I wonder if you are
studying your SS lesson.
I have not changed my
time since I left Ohio and
my watch tells me that it
is now with you nearly
twelve-o-clock so you are
doubtless sleeping .I hope
you will keep better hours
father always wanted
us to go to bed early and
of course it is better than
to sit up so late as we
have done so much of
the time .I had my
trunks sent directly over
to the Oceanic and
Monday will go I suppose
and see if everything is
all right. The Park we

the grass is so
green and
it seemed
like summer
weather.
Mrs Masters
says they
hope to come
back to
China some
time it will
be nice if
they do.
