Harriet writes that Miss Lewis weighs only 81 pounds, which makes her look very old and sick. A lot of anniversaries have been taking place in the past few days.

My dear Em,
It is Saturday
night and almost time
to think about sleeping
but I will write a few
lines to you first. Miss
Butler has gone to the
country for a trip of a few
days. She will visit one
of our scholars who is
married and teaching
a school under [u] Dr [/u] Henry's
supervision. Miss Lewis
has gone to bed she seems
to get very tired. I can
see that she has changed
and grown old very fast
since I went home. Miss
Butler I think looks better
and younger than when
she came out. She still
wears her hair short and
it is getting quite gray.

We were all weighed a
few days since. Martha
weighed 155 pounds,
Harriet 135, Miss Butler
133, Miss Lewis [u] 81 [/u], so you
will see there is not much
of her. I wish I could give
her twenty pounds we
would each then be better
satisfied. It makes her
look so very old to be so thin.
It seems as though she
looks as old as Mother
ever did but she is only
fifty four. Miss Butler
started August 8th.
Martha, Miss Lewis and I
went with her a few
miles and took a small
boat with us to come
back in. It was so quiet
and restful we all
enjoyed it very much
and quite envied Miss Butler
her trip. I hope she will

have a pleasant time
and not get into any
trouble. These last few
days have been anniversary
days. Aug 8th was twenty
two years from the time
that Cynthia went home
to heaven. The 7th made
eight years that Dr Vrooman
has been there and the
6th the third time Mother's
birthday has come since
she left us. It seems as
though they must remember
these anniversary days at
least while we are still
living and think of them
so I wished to write home
on Mother's birthday but
did not but I knew we would
all think of her. I think
so often of what Martha
wrote when Mother died
that probably in thirty
years we shall all be

together again on "the other
side." Two years and
a half, one twelfth of the
time has passed already.
If any of us live longer
than that we shall certainly
feel then that we are [u] near [/u]
the meeting time. It is
Saturday morning now in
the dear old "house on the
hill" and I presume you
are all busy. Henry and
his family are doubtless
with you still. The boys
will enjoy their visit I
am sure. I am glad
poor old Ned survived
last winter, but I hope
Edward will not have
to take care of him another
year. I wish he could
bequeath all his good qualities
to his successors. I
suppose it is almost time
for you to go back to
