My dear Clara
I will tell [u] you [/u] all
about the wedding dress. I
sent you a sample of the
lace I think. It made a
beautiful dress. It was just
made in a long trained
skirt, what came off from
the front pieced on at the
back made it long enough
for as long a train as we
wished. I cut the basque
so that the edge of the
lace came around the
bottom. She is going to
have a photograph taken
some time with it on so you
can see how it looked. She
looked very sweet and
pretty. I was so glad
that Mr Wisner was so
pleased with her appearance
He said that we dressed her
so that she was the most
beautiful bride he had ever
seen. It was very funny
afterwards he went up into
her room to help her pick
up things and every thing
was in the wildest confusion
and he was so astonished
that such a lovely bride
could come out of such a
shell as that. But she
told him she did not
dress in that room but in
mine. The veil looked
very pretty it was fastened
on the top of her head
with orange blossoms and
was as long as her dress.
She carried a bouquet of
flowers. The lace in her
dress was pinned at the
throat with two delicate
gold pins and a little chain
which Jessie Wisner
had given her and
the lace where it came
together after being trimmed
around the neck was
fastened with a bunch
of flowers and arranged
in a cascade to the bottom
of the basque. Her dress
was cream colored Nellie
Hartwell her brides maid
wore a white lace dress
made up over blue. Mr Cunningham
was the grooms man.
Miss Butler and I walked
in first then Mr Cunnningham
& Nellie and then Frank &
Sophie. His name is
Oscar Francis but she
will call him Frank which
seems a nice name for him.
I will send you a picture
which will show you
just how Miss Butler's and
my dress were made
excepting we had ordinary
sleeves trimmed with lace
and a fold or two of the
material and a bow of
ribbon I will enclose a
but of the material and
lace & ribbon. Miss Butlers
dress was a shade more
yellow than mine. They
said "we looked very nice
and headed the procession
with great dignity." The
Chinese said we walked
just right. We thought it
would be rather embarrassing
to walk first but it did not
seem at all so. I think
perhaps it was because we
are so accustomed to walking
up that aisle at the head
of our column of scholars
Sabbath mornings. We had
laughed and joked a
great deal about it all
beforehand. I shall never
forget how Mr Wisner looked one
evening when he showed us how
he [u] could [/u] stand & relieve his
embarrassment by rolling up the corner

of his
coat
between
his thumb
& finger.
But when
the time
came we
did not
think of
any of
these
preliminaries
