Description

Harriet has very little time to write. She tells her sister that Miss Lewis left yesterday and that she procrastinated to pack and leave. It took much effort to "get her off." She left her room in a state of disarray. Harriet informs her sister of two boxes that are being sent home with gifts (sandalwood fans). She herself received the shoes sent from home.

Canton China
June 25th 1890
My dear Mary,
I cannot write
you anything except
to say that I have
no time to write I
ought to have started
to a day school half
an hour ago, and
must go. Miss Lewis
left yesterday and her
boxes are following her
today. They are
carrying them out now.
She is the most procrastinating
of all mortals and at
the last we all had
to set to "tooth and
nail" to get her off.
Her room looked like
confusion confounded.

When we get a little
time we will clean up the
debris. I send two boxes
which I hope will reach
you in due time. The
last one I put up in such
a hurry, the sandal wood
fan is for Sarah and if
you like one of the blue
ones take it. I am
afraid you will not like
the color but I had no
time to get any other Perhaps
Sarah would like one of
the blue ones also, you will
have to divide the things as
you think best I thought of
you all. The box with the
shoes came all right and
the pretty ribbons many thanks
The shoes are long, soft broad
and thin enough, perfectly
comfortable. With much love
Hattie.
