Miss Shaffner is going back home and got her ticket for $77.00 when the normal fare is $100.00.

Canton China
July 18th 1890
My dear Em
I am so sorry
that I have no time
this time to write any
thing before the mail
leaves . The old man
has already come for
the letters so I can just
write a word We have
had Miss Shaffner
here a lady who
came out last fall
and goes home on
this steamer .Then
Dr Broomwall a
lady from Philadelphia
has been here and
also goes this

afternoon . She was a
teacher of Dr Fulton's
and we have all
been flying around
to do her [illegible] while
she has been here
yesterday and
to day I do hope
before the next mail
goes I shall be
able to write a
decent letter again.
I know I have not
sent one for weeks.
The fare across the
Pacific is down to
$100.00 Miss Shaffner

gets her ticket for $ 77.00 I
can not help thinking that
if I had lots of money and
lots of time I would like
to run over for a visit of a
month or two and surprise
you all . We are going
to have another mail
from home in a few days
With love for all from Hattie -
