Description

Harriet writes home that she is attempting to get more rest and has been very low energy. She sends a message to Nill Dodge that they use the Anthem books he sent regularly. There are nine new missionaries, the Medical School opened, and Harriet's school is quite full, so the mission is going very well.

Canton China
Nov 3rd 1904
Dear Ones at Home,
I suppose the
Two are again holding the
fort on Mission Hill.
Sarah back at her work in
Jacksonville and Martha "out
on the ocean sailing." I
only commenced this last
evening when Shek appeared
and insisted that I must
go to bed. She has taken
me in hand to see that
I go to bed at nine-o-clock.
As I know that she is in
the right about the matter
I am usually very obedient.
Dr Graves called a day
or two since. He brought
out nine new missionaries
There is to be a reception for

them tomorrow and I
expect I must go if no
excuse can be found for
not doing so. I have not
the faintest desire to go
anywhere. Day before
yesterday Dr Swan's new
Medical College was
opened there was a
grand display of flags &c
and a lot of high officials
were in attendance. The
school girls a class were
invited to sing. We were
to sing two pieces, but the
programme was interfered
with by the photographer
so we only sang one,
the first one in the
Anthem Book [?Nill?] Dodge

gave me. "I will sing
of the mercies of the
Lord forever." I wish
you would tell him
something that we have
made the greatest use
of that book, and it always
brings him to mind,
his name is written in
it. I hope we can get
up a concert sometime
this winter, have wished
to do so for years. Did
I write to you about the
Chinese girls we were
expecting to come to
school? Well they
did not come. I forgot to
write that they were

coming from San Francisco.
One of them the one
who sang before the
Gen Assembly at Los Angeles
has gone to Oberlin.
We have however a pupil
from Boston , a Chinese
woman who was there
several years. The school
is so full it does not
seem that we can take
in another one but there
are constant applications
Here comes Shek for
the letter so must close we
expect the home mail
brought by "Siberia" (steamer)
this morning, hope I will
have some letters
With love Hattie.

Martha
/
/
/
/
Graves

/

/

前天,
Swan

Dodge

/
/
Shek
/
/
/
Hattie
