Description
The author of this letter writes about an experience where a steamer was supposed to leave but the captain wanted to wait. They mention that the people they saw off should arrive around June 1st, their birthday, meaning the letter was written by Mattie. Harriet has been told to stay home for two years to rest and get better, and it is currently a concern that she will not be able to get her salary while at home.

Hattie must not come

feels there is no reason she

some doubt about drawing
her salary at home. I have
urged it upon her to do so

should have her salary

put thousands of dollars into
the treasury and it will be a
pity if they can not let her
have partial salary until
she is strong. She said she
would feel better if they would
offer it to her - but they will
not do that I suppose. But I
do feel they will not feel the
least objection to her having
it. She looks "fat" but she
is not strong. That must only
come with time. You will
be so glad to see her. I do
hope you will have a quiet

quiet. Now I must say
good bye. Hope you will

know how you spent the
day . You would have been
happy could you have known
what was going on on this
side. We feel as though our
