Description

Henry is glad that his sister Martha is feeling better. He tells her that they are staying at the London Mission house for a while until perhaps they go to Lin Chau with other missionaries. Henry writes that out of all the men in the last prayer meeting, he was the only one who was not a doctor. According to Dr. Stubert, they are expecting nine new missionaries for central China this fall.

Hongkong Sept 2d 1882
Dear Mattie
I was glad to
hear by last mail, from
Em's letter that you are
feeling a good deal better.
She said that you were
riding out a good deal
which will doubtless be
beneficial. We are staying
just now in the London
Mission House for a short
time. I wrote in Mother's
letter that the Presbyterian
Mission were patronising
Hongkong a good deal this
summer. The White's and

Thomsons expect to start
for Lin-Chau soon after
the 6th of Oct next. They
have no house there
but will go in boats
and remain for some
time. Dr + Mrs Graves
and Hattie + Miss Butler
are talking of going up
with them and then com-
ing right back. Perhaps
Mrs Happer will go too.
I expect Mrs Happer
will start for the United
States next Spring.
I hav'nt heard how
Dr Talmadge has been

since getting home but
I presume he got strong
soon. I have once or
twice seen some notice
of him in the papers +
the last one referred to
his venerable appearance
with his long snowy beard.
Dr Stubbert was in
Canton when we left. --
had been there a day or
two. At the last prayer
meeting at our house which
I led all the men but
myself were doctors.
Dr Kerr, Dr Thomson +
Dr Stubbert. Dr Stubbert
says that they are expecting

9 new missionaries for
Central China this fall.
I expect the Board
thinks we have got our
share for the present.
Mr Fulton is still
away at Lin-Chau or
its vicinity -- Mr Henry
thinks of making a trip
to Hai nam this fall --
It is delightful
weather and we are all
enjoying the refreshing sea
breeze. Bella was feeling
quite tired with the hot weather
and this will be a nice rest
The children are both very
well -- With love from Bella
+ the children + myself to you all
Your Aff Bro Henry
