Canton Feb 28th 1883
Dear Bro Edward
The Mail reached
here this morning quite
to our surprise as we
were not looking for it until
to-morrow. I have therefore
Mary's good long letter before
me which I am answering
to you. Tell her that her turn
will come however before very
long. I think my last was
written to father and Mother.
I am glad that [--Edward--] you seem[--s--]
to be still getting better. What a
long long time [--he is--] [--you--] you are havEing.
It must have seemed good
to [--him--] you to able to go to church
again. Excuse the scratches above.
It got into my head for the
moment that I am writing
to Mary so she will know
that I was thinking about her

From Mary's account of
the Circulating Library you
will have 100 books to
read through this year if
you get time to do it. She
also speaks about the marriage
of Hannah Leitzell. How time
passes away. It seems
strange to hear about those
whom I remember as little
children getting married and
settling down. Please give
Mrs Pidgeon my best wishes
whenever any of you see her.
I have no news of
any interest to write. Our
life here is so much the
same day by day. I guEss
I must tell you a little about
the boys (as you and I were
once called) but I now refer
to two little boyes out here

They have their own char-
acteristics . Richard Varnum
is a very decided character.
He knows vEry wEll what he
wants and what he does not
want. He is a kind of
little Spartan in his way. If
[--yo--] we have occasion to
chastise him a little he very
often will just take without
[--compress--] compromising his
dignity by admitting that he
is hurt. He just bites his
teeth together and takes it. He
likes to play too. You could hear
him laugh all over the house
sometimes when he is pretending
to hide and is discovered
Willie does not read much
yet but likes very much to
have some one read to him
and has got so that he under-

stands simple stories very
well. He likes to hear the
story of the Prodigal-Son. He
keeps his eyes open and
is generally very well informed
in regard to what is going
on around him. As Mary
say in her letter the children
grow up rapidly - and these
little[--s--] ones will be grown
up all too soon I am thinking
We are getting our work
started for another year -
I expect to have more to do
in the way of teaching than
heretofore. Am teaching in
Dr Happer's school and am
getting a Boy's Boarding School
into operation. The boys however
are expected to pay their own board
mostly Good bye for this time.
Love to you all from us all
Your Aff Bro -Henry -

Pidgeon
