To the Ladies of the Benevo[Note: page ripped here]
Society of the Presbyterian Church
of Guilford,
Beloved Friends,
In this 77th anni-
versary day of my birth I have
received from you a present
of the Sofa which I had the
honor and pleasure of occupying
several years in the [?house?] of God.
For this very valuable present
you will please to accept my
most cordial thanks, This "Old
friend," as you very appropriately
term it, will be not only a valuable
accession to our household furniture
and a source of much comfort,
but also a remembrance of its
use in God's Sanctuary.
I have reason to believe that
during my ministry in this Con-
gregation I have enjoyed in a large
degree the confidence and esteem
of the sisters in the Church, and
their cheerful and hearty co-opera-
tion in all my labours to extend
and build up our [?Zion?] has been
peculiarly gratifying and encoura-
ging. My wife and family unite
with me in this expression of
gratitude. That God may grant
you his richest blessings and give
success to all your efforts to
advance his kingdom, is the
desire and prayer of your sincere
friend and former pastor
