We use the nice silver things you gave us every meal
Los Angeles Oct 28th
1877
My dear Mother
I have received
both your letter and Clara's
during this week and was
glad to hear all about Hattie's
leaving . I know how hard
it must have been for you
all and for her too. It
was nice that they sung
"Father WhatE'Er of Earthly bliss"
out under the shade of the
beech trees. I think that is
a beautiful hymn and is
very precious on account
of its associations. It was
nice of the good people of Seville
to make Hattie such a present.
I am glad they did it.
I hope to see the pretty things
after awhile and also the
nice watch. I hear that she
has arrived safe in Oakland
and is at Dr Kerr's. I pre-
sume I may hear from
her when the mail comes
in to-day. It comes in
every day about 2-o-clock
but I do not ordinarily
get the letters until I
go up to school in the
Evening. Bella has got
how so that she goes to
the evening school. She goes
in the street car + I on
my horse. I meet her
when she gets off [--and--]
about 5 minutes' walk from
the Mission Chapel + Schoolhouse.
The baby is getting
along rapidly in strength.
He weighs 14 pounds now
and seems very strong for a
boy of his age - makes
himself heard occasionally too.
I think Mary Anderson will
probably remain about a
month longer. She did
talk some of staying all
winter but I rather think
she has given that up, although
I do not think she is entirely
decided herself yet as to what
she will do.
I am glad so many
of the family could go to
Elyria. I can imagine
them on that long platform
in the moonlight. I remember
the place, as Hattie and I
stopped there a little while
on our way home form
Sandusky City.
Now I will say
good bye for this time as
I must go if I get this into
the office in time for the
mail. I am going to take care
of baby this Afternoon and let
Belle + her sister make some
calls.
Ever so much love to you all
from
-- Henry -
PS Bella would send her love I doubt not
if she was here
