Dear Sarah
I do not think I have
written to you since I came
here and I do not know for
how long before. I propose that
we open up a correspondence
again. I have not forgotten
how tired you looked when I
was at Seville and when I saw
you last on the cars in Cleveland
I hope you [--aur--] are getting rested
Hattie's letter & Clara's to Bella
reached us yesterday and
both speak of your having
neuralgia. That comes un-
doubtably from your over-
work. I hope you will feel
stronger before you have to
begin again. Am glad Clara
is going to have the chance
of seeing our relatives on the
East again. Very sorry to
hear of the accident to Mr
Stoakes. I am very glad to
have the different notices you
sent in regard to father. They
are all very nicely written.
The one in the Presbytr &
Herald I had seen. Some
one handed me a copy
of the paper while I was
in Philad & it proved to
be the one which had
this notice in it.
We are all well
The weather last week was
unusually hot, but it
is delightfully cool now.
The Children finished school
yesterday. Richard had to
do ten examples in Arithmetic
and as he got them all right
he came home much delighted
saying he was 100 per cent.
The next examination was in
spelling. He had to write 50
words & thought he only missed
one so he said he was 98
per cent - that the teacher said
so. The next time he
came home he had been
examined on reading and
he said he was 100 per sent.
He said he was in all
"296 per cent" - that his spelling
was 96 instead of 98 that
he has missed two words.
I asked him who told him
that he was 100 per cent in
reading. He said the teacher
said before they commenced
that if they read it all right
they would get 100 per cent &
said he "I did read it all
right." So we found that he
has graded himself on the
reading but he came out very
well undoubtably. Willie did
not know his grades as his
papers had not yet been
examined but thinks he
made no mistake in the
Arithmetic examples. We think
he got through well enough. He
still continues drawing & music &
is going very well.
Bella is quite busy to-day
as it is baking day, and she
is also putting up some strawberries
We expect to leave next week
Thursday for Bridgeton NJ to
attend the Missionary Con-
vention there. I wonder whether
I ever mentioned that I met for
a few minutes when in Phila
Dr George C Noyes of Evanston.
He remembered the "pleasant
letter" as he [?styled it that he
[illegible] got from "Varnum Noyes".
He is a regular correspondent for
the "Evangelist" under the signature
"Clement". Possibly you may have
met him sometime. I send on
another sheet "[?propered plan of school house".
Bella & the children & myself send love wyou all
You aff Bro Henry.
